It was the spring of 2004 and I was eager to write about the great people and places on the East End. I had heard about a new magazine, Hampton Jitney Magazine, which was scheduled to launch that summer. I loved the idea behind this venture: publish a great magazine and distribute it on the ubiquitous Hampton Jitney so that people had something new to read while sitting in traffic on the LIE. I did some research and weeks later I was sitting in Starbucks with the founder. We shook hands and a couple of hours later I left as a Hampton Jitney Magazine contributor. Unfortunately, like many publishing start-ups, the magazine ceased publication after a couple of summers. However, it provided me with a great opportunity to meet some amazing people in the Hamptons. I met and interviewed top restauranteurs, entrepreneurs, athletes, doctors and authors. There is nothing like an interview on the beach to make deadlines that much more palpable…
